The best thing about Searcy County is its location in the middle of incredible recreational attractions, as well as being situated between two different urban scenes: Branson and the Little Rock area. To the east and west are national forests and wilderness areas offering hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hunting, and fishing.
The Ozark Folk Center and Blanchard Springs Caverns in Mountain View are nearby. The Buffalo National River in north Searcy County offers canoeing, floating, fishing, camping, and hiking along its pristine, clear waters, where one can see herds of elk. Quaint villages have their own charms, including old time general stores, antique shops, cozy cafes, and a bakery turning out artisan breads.
There are huge, clear water lakes to the north and south for water activities. Golfing and various musical events are all close by. Branson to the north is a bit of what Orlando is to Florida, but more country. Little Rock in the south has fine dining, cultural events, colleges, libraries, theatre, art galleries, and shopping.
Marshall, with a population of about 1,313, is a small rural town, but it has most of what you need for living: a town square with courthouse and government offices, a modern post office, several banks, insurance offices, a few lawyers, dentists, eye doctors, physical therapists, a veterinarian, and an industrial park located at the Searcy County Airport in Marshall which has a 4003’ long runway.
There is a well-equipped grocery store offering a good selection of produce, a fine butcher shop, a bakery, and a deli for snacks and lunch. There are several feed and general merchandise stores, an electronics store, a fine furniture store, an old fashioned hardware store, and several pharmacies and medical clinics. Dining out includes fast food places offering the best cheeseburgers, ice cream, and other snacks, a drive in burger and fries place, just like the old days, and a pizza place, a Mexican restaurant, and several country dining, home-style cooking restaurants. Churches abound. There is a drive in theatre. Marshall also provides elementary, junior and senior high schools. A hospital and specialty medical clinics can be found in nearby Clinton,as well as Conway and Little Rock.
Perhaps one of the more wonderful assets of Marshall is its public library with a great collection of books, books on tape, videos, DVDs, and a room full of computers dedicated to geneaology research. You can even check out fishing poles from the library for an day’s outing. The library also offers a book club for readers, a writers’ club for writers, and activities for the children. Computers linked to the internet are available for patrons’ use.
Best of all, real estate here is both affordable and attractive, in the prettiest county of Arkansas.
